August 6, 2012
You no longer need a PC to connect to your Live Messenger and chat with your friends. You can do it directly through your HDTV and Xbox 360. From now you, you will be able to easily communicate through chat messages that are being sent from your Xbox 360, PC and mobile.
I’m going to teach you the basics of installing and configuring Live Windows Messenger on Xbox. Take what I’m going to teach you here, apply it and in less than 20 minutes you will be able to do most of the Live Windows Messenger actions all by yourself.
The most important benefits and features for bringing the Windows Live Messenger on Xbox 360 are:
- bring both your Live Windows Messenger and Xbox 360 contacts in one place
- chat with multiple contacts at once and let them know news about yourself
- add and edit contacts
It’s pretty easy to make Live Windows Messenger work on your Xbox 360. First you need a Windows Live ID which is a single login credential for all Windows services. Go to the Xbox Live area from where you can select “Chat and IM” and then “Messenger”. Then you can simply login or sign up for a Live Messenger account.
How do you connect with Live Messenger? By default, it will automatically login you and you will not have to do anything else. It will just work by itself.
If you want to change that, you need to disable the “auto sign-in” feature. I’ll show you how to accomplish this later in this article.
Live Messenger on Xbox is not that impressive unless it has the ability to add new contacts. To add a new contact, visit the Xbox Live area, select “Friends” and then select “Add Friend”. The the software will send a request to the contact that has the Windows Live ID that you have provided.
How do you start a new conversation? The steps are: Xbox Dashboard, Xbox Live, Chat and IM, Messenger, new Conversation, select a contact, write a message and send the message. It’s quite easy and intuitive.
When the displayed status is set to “online”, you practically give a licence to everybody else to disturb you. The steps to change your status are: Xbox Dashboard, gamer profile, Edit Gamer Profile, Privacy Settings, Online Status and then choose an option. You can opt for your status to be available to everyone in the world, to just your friends or to no one.
When you configure Live Windows Messenger on Xbox Live, all your Live Windows Messenger friends will be added to your Xbox Live account. To make things easy, your Live Messenger contacts that are also on the Xbox Live will receive a gamertag after their name on the chat list.
You can even add a USB keyword to your Live Messenger on Xbox 360. You can take advantage of a set of shortcuts that will make everything easier for you. Press Windows + M to go to the login screen so you can login to your Live Messenger.
After you are logged in, press Windows + M again to start a new conversation. With the same Windows + M command you can open a chat box above your game or movie. You will be able to write and send messages without stopping the main thing you are doing. To close the chat box, you can do it simply by pressing again Windows + M.
Having only one command makes it easy to use Live Messenger on Xbox 360. You don’t have to remember anything else.
The Live Windows Messenger auto signs in by default. To disable the default auto sign in behavior you have to do the following steps: Xbox Dashboard, Xbox Live, gamer profile, select Auto Sign-In and finally select disable.
As you can notice, it’s quite easy to set up and play with Live Messenger on Xbox 360. I invite to go right now and set up Live Messenger on your Xbox 360 console. This guide is all you need to make it happen. Have fun with it!
